The Summer Solstice is the most important day of the year at Stonehenge. Yes it's an astronomical event and yes it is open access where unlike the rest of the year you can walk among the stones.
But the big draw is the Summer Solstice Experience at Stonehenge, a celebration that brings together pagan groups (druids, wiccans etc), plus throw in ordinary families and tourists and you have normally around 20,000 people enjoying themselves in one very large party.
We offer a choice of two tours from London, one leaving in the early hours of the morning in time for the sunrise itself, the other making a full day of it the day before, including the stone circle Avebury and a dinner in the medieval village of Lacock too, then soaking up the atmosphere of the party in the evening, before heading back around 10pm.
The single big event is sunrise on the 21st June where the sun rises over the Heel Stone witnessed by a celebrating crowd just like over 5,000 years ago perhaps. Stonehenge opens early evening the night before and the crowd quickly builds, most of whom will stay all night whatever the weather throws at them.
It's a party atmosphere with pagan groups dressed and performing colourful ceremonies, the sound of drums and everybody in a good frame of mind that will cheer almost anything. As said before this is an experience, hard to describe, and one you will remember all of your life.

This is a straight bus service that will take you from London to the Stonehenge site and bring you back in the morning after sunrise in a comfortable air-conditioned tour bus.
The tour leaves London around 1am on the 21st June from the Millennium Gloucester Hotel London in Kensington very close to Gloucester Road Underground Station.
The London Underground closes around midnight but London has a very good night bus service.
The bus should arrive at Stonehenge around 3am the summer solstice will be well under way by then as the atmosphere builds towards the sunrise at around 4.45am the climax of the whole event.
The bus should get back to London around 8am although this is very much a tentative time for indicative purposes and may well be delayed.
We have an alternative tour option that leaves London at midday on the 20th June. The departure point is from the Millennium Gloucester Hotel London in Kensington very close to Gloucester Road Underground Station.
In the afternoon we first head for Avebury, another major henge about 20 miles north of Stonehenge. This is a training camp for the Stonehenge visit that evening. You will walk among the stones, experience energies/ley lines and learn a little of the pagan celebrations and the pagan groups themselves.
If we are lucky you may observe pagan rituals, but this is not your normal tour with events put on for the tourists, nothing is guaranteed.
Late afternoon we move onto Lacock, a picturesque medieval wool town, for dinner to fortify us for the evening's events. A one course supper in a historic 13th Century Inn is included in your ticket price.
Following Lacock, you will journey to Stonehenge itself arriving at roughly 7pm, as it begins its annual celebration of the summer solstice.
Huge crowds gather and there will be plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere of this historic event, walk amongst the stones, and observe the pagan rituals and ceremonies that take place at varying intervals throughout the evening until around 10pm when you will head back to London, returning between 12am and 1am.
The coach drop off and collection point will be at the same location and will be within the visitor centre car park, at least a mile from Stonehenge itself; a 20-30 minute walk to and from Stonehenge across grass fields.
There is little/no shelter at Stonehenge. You should come prepared for rain just in case and remember if it rains you will be walking through sodden grass - not a great idea to wear footwear that is not water resistant at such times.
Note - there is no access to the Visitor Centre on this occasion.
Visitors are requested to dispose of their rubbish carefully at the designated recycling and rubbish points located in the Solstice Car Park and at Stonehenge. Clear recycling bags will also be handed out on arrival. Please do not drop litter - bag and bin your rubbish so the recycling team can gather them up. It is a very sensitive landscape and still used by local farmers, so please respect their crops and livestock.
This is not a tourist event where entertainment and events are performed to contract and timetable. This is a spontaneous event where things happen impromptu and unplanned. You are not a voyeur here, you are a participant.
Prices displayed on the banner link are a special on-line discounted price, deep discounted from the price in London.
Major credit and debit cards are accepted. You will be emailed a confirmation with a booking reference after reservation. The booking reference and the name of the person ordering is all that you need to quote when joining the tour, there are no paper tickets.
On the tour detail page from the link below, there is a calendar control at the top right of the page, which depicts which dates still have availability. By selecting your required date you start the reservation process.
