The Pheasant Inn pub off Bath Road, Heathrow |
The Bath Road runs along the northern perimeter of Heathrow Airport and is the main hotel strip.
If you are more than happy to pay for all your food, drink and entertainment in the Heathrow hotels at their inflated prices and are content to pay for the official Hoppa Buses that shuttle between the Heathrow hotels and passenger terminals, it doesn't really matter which Heathrow hotel you want to stay at.
However, many people inevitably end up paying much more for these so called add-ons than they actually finally pay for their hotel room.
Staying at a hotel along the Bath Road enables you to 'escape' the hotels and eat and drink at local prices and much cheaper, sometimes with free public transport to the passenger terminals.
The availability of public transport also enables you to spend time in somewhere attractive like Windsor, the home of the Windsor Castle and the Royal Family, rather than killing time in the hotel bar.
It can often make for a pleasant trip as many Heathrow Airport hotels are somewhat isolated where it's hard to 'escape' the airport surroundings.
On this page we focus on the eastern section of the Bath Road, arguably the better section of the Bath Road on the basis that there are more restaurant, pub and shop choices and also more public transport options.
We have a dedicated page of the western section of the Bath Road at Heathrow, which may be of particular interest to those using Terminal 5.

The Three Magpies pub |
The 3 Magpies is strategically situated above the main entrance to Heathrow airport. In the immediate locality are some of the largest airport hotels at Heathrow. The Park Inn is opposite and the Renaissance is the next building east along the Bath Road.
The 3 Magpies offers budget simple pub food, most of the mains below or around the £10 mark.
In terms of quality of food, the the Phesant Inn is the best of the pub restaurants in the area and a favourite with the locals. The menu is more adventurous and more expensive. A short 3 or 4-minute walk off the Bath Road by McDonald's, situated in a residential housing area. Take New Road off the Bath Road between the Radisson Edwardian Hotel Heathrow and the Marriott Heathrow and the Pheasant is at the end of the street.
Steaks around £25, Fish £17.99, most other mains around £15.
Down by the side of the Park Inn, a straight forward pasta restaurant serving budget pizza and pasta dishes at prices well below the neighbouring hotels.
Pasta dishes £8-10, Pizza £8-11. House specialities £18.95.
Located in front of the Radisson Edwardian Hotel on the Bath Road the usual McDonald's offering is alive and well.
The restaurant has a pleasant seating area outside, a nice option on a fine day if you can ignore the noise of the traffic on the Bath Road.
Big Mac Meal and similar meal deals 5-6 GBP.
McDonald's in front of Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel |
KFC is located down the eastern end of the Bath Road just past the Premier Inn.
There is a large Starbucks opposite, but every hotel along the Bath Road has a coffee shop and Starbucks has the concession at many of them.
KFC 3 pieces £5, Bargain Bucket (6 pieces, 4 fries) £11.99.
Located at Harlington Corner next to the Ibis Hotel this bowling alley with fast food outlet and bar is much better inside than first appearances on the outside suggest.
There is a fast food outlet called Barcellos inside that used to be a McDonald's but now serves a much wider range well beyond burgers. The Bowlenium Bar and slot machine room complete the picture. The actual bowling alley is pretty much the standard bowling alley offering.
A handy convenience store that also sells alcohol and some take away food. Situated next door to Il Basilico Pasta Restaurant adjacent to the Park Inn.
The Sovereign also is an outlet for selling Oyster Cards and Travelcards. If you are going into London for sightseeing, using one of these is by far the least expensive way to do this from Heathrow using the London Underground.
Cranford fast food |
At the eastern end of the Bath Road is Cranford. By the DoubleTree by Hilton Heathrow Airport and Travelodge Central is a bustling neighbourhood shopping centre serving the local community with all the basics.
All the shops and restaurants are clustered together around a road junction. This is the place to come around Heathrow for fast food. Everything from pizza to fish and chips to kebabs to burgers and chicken.
There is a pharmacy, hairdressers and several food and wine stores as well as fresh vegetables and fruit. Much of the local community are from the Indian subcontinent and what is available for sale often reflects this.
Neet food and wine is one of several convenience stores selling alcohol and food but is notable also as an outlet for selling Oyster Cards and Travelcards. If you are going into London for sightseeing, using one of these is by far the least expensive way to do this from Heathrow using the London Underground.
For most of your grocery needs there is a small supermarket called Tesco Express. There is also a couple of Indian restaurants and a cafe restaurant called Moniz that offers simple food at budget prices all through the day.
The local buses that run along this section of the Bath Road are all the famous London red buses. If you stand anywhere along the Bath Road you will almost certainly be able to see at least one bus at any time, they are that frequent. Many of the routes are 24/7 and there is also a night bus N9, that goes all the way into central London.
One aspect of the local buses that makes them especially attractive to visitors staying in hotels at the airport is that these local buses are free for use all around the perimeter roads. If you are staying at one of the hotels along the Bath Road between the Park Inn and the Ariel Holiday Inn the journey is free to all terminals.
If you board or disembark to the east of the Ariel Holiday Inn you pay the standard flat fare, which is still half the price of the Heathrow Hoppa hotel shuttle buses

Local buses serving Heathrow details
The money no object solution to getting into London for sightseeing is to take the Heathrow Hoppa hotel buses to Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 and then get the Heathrow Express train into London Paddington.
For a fraction of the price, you can use the London Underground and have unlimited travel for the day on London's buses and Underground using a Travelcard or Oyster Card.
You can purchase Travelcard and Oyster cards from Sovereign Convenience Store by the Park Inn and Neet Food and Wine, one of the Cranford Shops - both marked on the map at the top of the page. You can also get them from the Underground ticket offices at Heathrow.
The number 81 and 222 buses that run along the Bath Road every few minutes will take you to Hounslow West Underground station just beyond Cranford. Hounslow West is in zone 5, the Heathrow stations are in zone 6 saving you a little money if you use Travelcards. Bus journeys are zone less on Travelcards so you can use a zone 1-5 Travelcard between Hounslow West and Heathrow hotels even though they are in zone 6.
The 140 bus runs a 24/7 service to Hayes & Harlington Station where there are frequent trains into London's Paddington Station.
The area along the Bath Road is like the perimeter of any commercial airport. Many people just kill time in the lounge or in the their room watching TV.
Close to Heathrow though is Windsor, famous for its castle but a great place to visit and explore with much else besides. There is a great range of interesting places to eat, even a theatre to attend that can make an evening to remember.
