Staying at a hotel within the Gatwick Airport passenger terminal complex has the major attraction of being able to walk to your airport hotel from the passenger terminals without hanging around for a hotel shuttle and avoiding the cost of Gatwick Airport hotel shuttles that are not cheap.

There are now 8 hotels at Gatwick Airport you can walk to from two passenger terminals at Gatwick. From two budget Premier Inn hotels through a couple of Hilton's to a Marriott and the luxury Sofitel Gatwick.

 

Some hotels are right in the terminal complex itself, others are a 5-10 min walk, see below for more details.

Two Gatwick Airport passenger terminals - North & South Terminals

The two passenger terminals at Gatwick Airport are a long way apart; it is not possible to walk between them. There is a free monorail train service that shuttles between the two terminals every 2 or 3 minutes making journeys between the two terminals a breeze, even with luggage.

 

However, when looking for a hotel at Gatwick, do find out which passenger terminal your flight us using so you can factor that parameter into your purchasing decision. The original Gatwick passenger terminal is the South Terminal and that is where the station for the rail link to London is situated.

North Terminal

The original on-airport hotel for the North terminal is the Hotel Sofitel London Gatwick. This hotel is a full service luxury 4-star hotel, together with the Hilton at Gatwick's south terminal, one of the most expensive accommodations available in and around Gatwick Airport.

 

Another luxury choice for passengers wanting to stay on-airport at Gatwick's North terminal was built in 2014: Hampton by Hilton London Gatwick Airport.

 

For the more budget-conscious traveller, the Premier Inn London Gatwick Airport North Terminal is is a good option, opened late in 2012 and situated next to the Sofitel. Like the other two, you can also walk across the road directly into the terminal.

 

The Premier Inn North Terminal is a a very good quality 3-star grade equivalent hotel, comparable to the 4-star hotels in the above paragraph but with many of the frills you may never use taken out.

 

South Terminal

The original on-airport hotel for the South terminal is the Hilton London Gatwick Airport. Like the Sofitel at the North Terminal (above), this is the 4-star luxury option, so expect to pay more.

The Yotel London Gatwick is a Japanese cabin style option that is actually within the South Terminal itself, the entrance via a lift directly opposite exiting the customs hall. Not so much a hotel room as a bed in a small private space with restricted access times, but if all you need is a bed and little else it could be your solution.

 

The Bloc Hotel Gatwick is another no frills budget offering similar size rooms to the Yotel, but with King Size beds and like the Yotel is within the South Terminal itself.

There are two hotels within the passenger terminal complex that you can walk to in about 5-10 minutes, both hotels have shuttles if it's raining.

 

South Terminal

The Marriott Courtyard is a sign posted 10-minute walk from the south passenger terminal, but in all honesty most people seem to take the hotel shuttle bus (not complementary). It is a very good quality footpath with slopes on the kerbs so you can roll your luggage.

 

North Terminal

The Premier Inn Gatwick Airport Way normally offers cheaper rooms to its sister Premier Inn opposite the North Terminal. Before the Premier Inn North terminal was opened this hotel was the Premier Inn Terminal Hotel. It is about the same distance but from the North Terminal as the Marriott from the South Terminal but the path is much narrower, bumpier and is not signed. You also have to cross a very busy road opposite the hotel with no pedestrian crossing.

The Premier Inn North Terminal Gatwick is located next to the Sofitel, facing the North Terminal and is a good quality budget chain hotel with a very good reputation for people with one eye on their wallet who want value for money.

 

The Yotel and Bloc Hotels are within the South Terminal and are for those where low cost is the overriding purchasing criteria.

The Marriott Courtyard is a straight forward walk and sign posted from the South Terminal on a wide pavement that is well signed to the hotel, though there is no protection from the elements.

 

The Premier Inn Airport Way is a similar distance to the Marriott but from the North Terminal but the footpath is not signed and narrow/bumpy.
