Stansted hotels have become more plentiful in recent times.
In the last few years a number of large chain hotels have opened their doors near Stansted Airport just as the airport. This is good news for the customer as Stansted hotel rooms are competitively priced.
To make an informed hotel choice at Stansted Airport you should understand:
There are only two hotels you can walk to from the passenger terminal at Stansted Airport, the Radisson Blu Stansted and the Hampton by Hilton Stansted. Both are connected to the passenger terminal by a covered walkway. The Radisson Blu is the most luxurious and expensive hotel at Stansted Airport, but still can offer excellent value.
Most but not all Stansted Hotels offer their own shuttle bus service, which are not complementary. Operating times and frequencies are variable. As a general rule the large chain hotels, such as the Premier Inn Stansted , Holiday Inn Express Stansted and the Novotel Stansted, offer the best service in terms of availability. Public transport in the area is thin on the ground and of little practical use.
Most airport hotels are isolated if you do not have your own transport and you may depend on the hotel for food and drink. The Holiday Inn Express and Premier Inn have a McDonald's and a BP petrol station, the Days Inn and Ramada Hotel are on a motorway service area and the Radisson Blu has the facilities of the passenger terminal to escape to, but that is about it. Only the Holiday Inn Express has breakfast included in the room rate except for some B&B options.
There is a choice of Bed and Breakfast accommodations but even the cheapest are little if any cheaper than the budget chain hotels at the airport. When transfers to the airport are made available they often have restrictions on hours of operation. Unless you have your own transport, Bed and Breakfast options will involve some inconvenience compared with some of the large chain hotels.

Currently the Stansted hotels market falls into 4 distinct categories:
Luxury Full Service Hotels
There are three 4 star full service hotels, the Radisson Blu , Hampton by Hilton and the Novotel Stansted hotel. The Novotel Hotel was the original luxury hotel at Stansted before Stansted exploded with the arrival of the low-cost budget airlines. It is situated on the airport perimeter road, the shuttle bus takes a full 10 minutes to get to and from the passenger terminals.
The Radisson Blu and Hampton by Hilton hotels are right next door to the passenger terminal. There is a covered walkway between the two.
The Radisson has all the latest luxuries you would expect from a new-build airport hotel and most people would agree it is by far the most luxurious hotel at Stansted.
The Novotel Stansted given the above is cheaper than the Radisson, sometimes discounting to the level of the budget chain hotels.
The Hampton by Hilton Stansted is strictly speaking a 3 star hotel but its location right next to the passenger terminal, some rooms with runway views, fitness facilities and other facets means it can charge a price premium.
No frills budget hotels
If all you really want from a hotel is a comfortable bedroom to stay overnight in and do not want to pay for things like room service, health clubs etc that you will never use then it makes sense to look at the Premier Inn Stansted and Holiday Inn Express hotels, located next to each other. After the Radisson Blu hotel and Hampton by Hilton hotels they are the next nearest to the passenger terminals, located about a mile away by the airport's mid-term car park.
There is a McDonald's out front with a BP garage that has a small cafe but otherwise it's isolated without a car. Both hotels are recent build and offer their own frequent shuttle buses to the passenger terminals as well as restaurants. The Holiday inn Express includes breakfast in the room rate.
Hotels for the motorist
If you have your own car and just need somewhere to sleep before an early flight, putting your car into a Stansted Long Term Car Park then there are some solid budget choices located on and around the Birchanger Motorway Services at the junction of the M11 spur into the airport.
The Days Inn and Ramada Hotel are on the service area and the Travelodge Stansted Bishops Stortford is about half a mile away. All of these have free overnight parking at the hotel, many airport hotels do not. The service area offers a good choice of places to grab something to eat and a small Waitrose supermarket.
Bed and Breakfast
At the moment the local Bed and Breakfast options are no cheaper than the hotels in the area.
However, if it's not price but a small place with personal attention and touches that you might actually remember in 5 years' time with a positive glow then we have a page of Stansted Bed & Breakfast options..
