The
hotel is a non-smoking hotel. Patrons who return time after time come
for the comfort and friendliness of the staff, this is not a facility
filled 4 star hotel.
The hotel does discount, but is not comparable to cheap hotels all
around it in Paddington.
The best description is perhaps best told by its customers.

Customer Reviews
Below are some fairly typical reviews from customers that have stayed
at the Darlington Hyde Park Hotel. They are independent viewpoints
and not necessarily the view of this web site.
"We were very pleased with every aspect of this hotel. The staff
was friendly and helpful, the breakfast suitable, the room was airy
and comfortable. The hotel is located in a convenient area, a five
minute walk to Paddington Station. From there we were able to hop
on the underground to every sight in London. We were also happy with
the neighborhood, we walked back to the hotel many times very late
at night and felt perfectly safe. Additionally, there were several
excellent restaurants in the area and some great pubs as well. Even
though the street was busy, the noise never bothered us, we both slept
soundly every night. We will definitely choose the Darlington again,
and would recommend this hotel to our friends and family. "
"Stayed here with my small daughter, collapsed in the door after
a long-haul flight and were pleasantly surprised. Had a twin bedroom
in basement area, good bathroom, neat and clean, great breakfast with
plenty of variety on offer and the breakfast room is clean, tidy and
sunny. Five minutes walk from Paddington station and close to shops
and restaurants. Only tiny thing I would say is that it wasn't probably
the most exciting place to stay for a small child - but highly recommended,
would definitely go back."
"How
nice it was to find things unchanged after a 2 year hiatus. If anything,
the hotel is even cleaner and the staff is even friendlier. We stayed
a week, and were pleased to be back in room 100. The ceiling is
very high, which gives a feeling of spaciousness to what is a normal-sized
double room. The one problem is that when it's hot, it gets very
stuffy, even with a fan. The french door only can open a few inches
because of a doorstop. Undoubtedly, this is there for reasons of
safety. There is a laundry machine, which we found useful, as we'd
been traveling for a couple of weeks. There is a good pub across
the street from an excellent Indian restaurant around the corner."
"We
arrived very early, not able to check into our room which was expected.
We were able to freshen up after our 24 hour flight, leave our luggage
and head for the sights of London. We arrived back at our cosy hotel
and our room was all ready. The family room has 2 separate bedrooms,
1 queen bed and the other room has 2 singles (no pull-out couches)
we feel this is a must with teenagers, bathroom separating the 2
rooms. The room was lovely and warm, maybe small but we only wanted
a comfortable bed for a good nights sleep and that is exactly what
we got, we only spent limited time in our room as we were enjoying
the many sights London has to offer. The breakfast is more than
enough either continental or a fully cooked English breakfast, beautifully
presented and very helpful staff to serve first thing in the morning.
Loved the small quaint feeling of this hotel rather than the large
hotel chain hotels. Close to the Paddington tube but you are closer
than you think to many London attractions and can easily walk the
distance, would highly recommend this hotel."
"We stayed here for 6 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The room we had was adequately spacious, very clean and welcoming.
We enjoyed a front room overlooking the tree lined street, found
it quiet with no street noise. Had a double bed, (smaller) tv ,
tea making , and a safe ( did not see this in previous reviews but
well worth having as it was free and was large enough for my laptop
etc).
We could not see why some earlier reviews were a bit critical of
the breakfast - we found the staff exceedingly pleasant and helpful,
the selection of foods was not huge, but was more than adequate
- you could have a full English breakfast , or just eggs, as you
wish and then there was a buffet of breads, jams, fruit, yogurts,
cheddar cheese, and cereals. All in a light airy room.
We had no problems at all with wi-fi , and it may help to know that
there seems to be different wi-fi connections floor to floor , so
you need to ask reception for the printed list of passwords. We
got a list with 7 passwords, and found different parts of the hotel
had better access to one or other of these connections. My Laptop
consistently showed 48 mbs with "excellent" or "very
good" signal strength.
An absolute find was the restaurant called "ASK" about
a block away, in Spring Street. Italian food to die for, superb
cuisine! Best of all it was inexpensive. We kept going back after
having been charged a small fortune at a local steakhouse where
the food was simply ok.
This Hotel is about 3 mins walk away from Paddington ( train &
metro stations) which meant that we took the Heathrow Express (
15 mins to get here ) and walked down to our hotel - I was pleasantly
surprised as to how painless it all was !
This was a central location , and everyday we launched off to see
various London attractions, most of which were 10 or 15 mins by
tube. Also the red doubledecker tour was excellent and worth the
day's outing ! Hyde Park and Marble Arch were a 10 minute walk away
from here. Would definitely stay here again - thoroughly enjoyed
our stay here !."
